Indie Psych-Pop group Crumb brings their new album AMAMA to San Diego. They near the end of their US tour with a dreamy vibe and lyrics which seemed to float from the beautiful ceilings of the North Park Observatory.
The artist Vagabon warms up the crowd with a simple and beautiful set showcasing her reputation as a great songwriter and vocalist. This venue could possibly be my favorite venue to photograph in San Diego, the amazing building combined with amazing lighting and sound always create an unforgettable moment.
The stage was strewn with these reflective panels as the lights dimmed and Crumb entered the stage. The reflective panels flashed bits of light, illuminating the band subtly. The crowd was one of the more respectful I’ve seen lately, singing along but still hearing the jazz inspired pauses in the music.
The multi-instrumental multi talented lead artist had an amazing tone to their voice that really stuck with me and had me take a listen through to the album. They also had another incredible artist who played keyboard/synth and saxophone throughout the night. I am such a sucker for any brass instrument making an appearance. The music was dreamy and eerie and entrancing in such a unique way.
After a few songs the reflective background came to life as the panels were attached to a rotating base and it created these reflective light waves framing the band as they played for the swaying San Diego Crowd. It felt surf rocky mixed with an almost lofi sound. The atmosphere felt nostalgic even though this was my first time seeing Crumb. I have nothing but glowing reviews ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
